Graphic Design You play an important part in the cover design of your book. We feel
that covers are often seen in the author‚s eye as they write.
Our
designers join with you in bringing forth a cover that is suited to
your concept of the book and to the known market for the book. We feel
that covers are symbolic repre-sentatives of what is contained inside. Our artists will also design calling cards, bookmarks, cups, book bags,
t-shirts, and other items that can carry the cover of your book or your
personal logo. Book Development Inherent in each of us is an idea, which could be a great book. Authors
are not born, they learn. They learn to express their inner thoughts
and ideas through words. Our developmental editors take you,
step-by-step, through a process that helps you uncover your ideas and
writing skills. Through a planned method, they help you develop what we
call the voice of your heart in your book. Editing Our editors take great care to make sure that your voice and energy are
not edited out of your work. You are involved every step of the many
stages it takes before a book is ready for printing. Your editorial
team will explain editing processes and why certain editing is
necessary. All rewriting is done by you. Your finished work will sound
like you, be you, and not the editor. We believe that a book holds your
special energy. The time, energy and love put into developing your work
remains there for your readers to feel and experience. Interior Design & Formatting A message that is unreadable never finds its audience. Our interior
design and formatting is based on the latest findings about how people
read and what helps them comprehend the written word. We feel that
function, form and beauty can work together. Your book is looked at
holistically from the cover and content, to the feel of the interior.
Themes are carried out throughout the book. Finished titles have a
feeling of being 'complete'. Print
Preparation Your publication can be made ready, in any number of formats, for the
printer of your choice. The work is delivered in the programs printers
use fully ready to be printed. It can be presented on a zip disk, CD,
or sent via FTP on the Internet.
ISBN
Assignments We assign each book that we publish a number that identifies it to
bookstores. This number tells the bookstore where the book came from,
the author and other vital information. This number is included in the
bar code on the back of books. Library of
Congress Registration Library of Congress card catalogue, registration & numbers. Each
published book is registered with the Library of Congress. In turn, it
is assigned a number that gives it a place in the Library and further
identifies it. These numbers, as well as the ISBN, are placed on the
copyright page of the book. Copyright One Spirit Press holds no copyrights in its name. You, the author, own
your work and it is copyrighted in your name. Marketing
Strategies Your book's best supporter is you! The process does not stop
when
the book is put to bed (sent to the printer). The goal is to get it
read. Here is where marketing your book comes into play. In most cases
we believe in test marketing your ideas and the look of your book. Your
book idea is presented to readers over the Internet and to buyers in
stores. There are many ways to market a book. You work with the marketing
associates to produce a plan that is sensible, workable and suited to
you and your book. History shows us the most successful authors
understand that they must market their own work! Poster/Bookmark Design All
avenues of communication are handled by our graphic
designers and
delivered to you print ready. Your cover can be transferred into a bookmark size or a poster that announces a special event. Our marketing
associates will assist you to decide which options are appropriate for
you. Distribution All books printed under the Spirit Press logo enjoy international
distribution to traditional book outlets in the English-speaking world.
It takes approximately six to nine weeks to get a book into the system
for delivery to bookstores. Sales people for the distributor present
your work on scheduled basis allowing the stores to order at will.
Books are sold first in your local geographical area. And, as they
begin to sell in local stores they are then ordered by other bookstores
across the world. Your local marketing efforts are extremely important
to the traditional sales of your book. Foreign and Book Club Sales Your book may be chosen to be presented to the foreign publishers. This
depends on the topics and those who are presenting titles. If
appropriate it will be presented to book clubs and other areas that
will increase sales through traditional methods. If you have chosen to
publish as your own publisher, we can help put you in touch with the
right people.

Internet Sales Our titles (books) are sold on the web by Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com as well as many other booksellers on the web. We
direct you in how to make these contacts, and in some cases can list
the book for you with other sellers. We are aggressive in our internet
sales. We feel this is the best source of income for authors.
Bookstores can take as much as 55% off of the cover prices.
E-book
(Electronic-book) Publishing
We
believe the future of publishing is a
virtual one. And for this reason we have begun to publish books on the
Internet. The reader may download these books to their
computer.
We make sure the titles/books cannot be manipulated by the buyer
including copying and printing. We use the Adobe system of PDF
security.
Print Brokering Your work deserves to look beautiful. This means it should have the
appropriate printing process and binding done on the spine. Printing is
the costliest single item on the production of any book. We work hard
to find the best printing for the least amount of cost per unit
printed. We find it a friendly challenge to find great printers who can
accommodate to the thin wallets of most of our authors. However, we
never recommend you forgo quality for price on a project. We get
printing samples and recommendations before we use any source of
printing. Final payment is never made to a printer until the final
project is checked.
Print-on-Demand In years past, publishers printed large quantities of books. Many times
these books were remaindered to outlets that sold them for pennies of
their original worth. We find that print-on-demand (POD) is a better
system for many books. POD is where as few as 50 books are printed at
one time off digital presses. (Or in some cases only one book) This
system does increase the cost-per-unit, but it precludes making a large
investment before you know how you book will be accepted. It is
virtually impossible to tell the difference between our print-on-demand
books and those off a larger press. Royalties: Money, Money, Money As an author-co-op we collect money on the books that are published
under our One Spirit Press Logo. This money usually comes through
bookstores, audio book, and Internet sales of your book. Bookstores and
other sources usually receive a discount on the cover price of the book
(this is the way they make their profits). The distributor holds from
19%-30% of the money on each book as a reserve for returns, the
subtraction of these items, plus any other agreed costs constitute the
net sales of your work. All financial arrangements are spelled out in
our agreements in easy to understand language. No costs are ever
incurred on your work without your prior consent. Payday depends on the
source of the income on your book. Your royalty payout can be as high
as 50% Prices The costs of projects are directly related to the amount of work,
services needed and goals of the proposal. Costs depend on the
individual elements. For instance, a post card becomes an inexpensive
item if done along with a book cover. While a post card done
independent of a cover is costlier. Payment can be made in a variety of
ways: check, money order or credit card. We have pay-mint plans and
will work with you to make your project as affordable as possible. Work Agreements You will find that our working agreements and publishing agreements are
author friendly. The agreements allow you to retain control over your
work. And help define our working relationship. Written in English
rather than legalese, we spell out real services, real deadlines and
real work. The agreements tell you what to expect from our associates
and what part you must play to make it all work. No surprises or hidden
costs in our agreements. Spirit Press takes great care to treat you and your work with
mindfulness. We honor your spirit and the energy of your work. In this,
no agreements on the behalf of your work are ever finalized without
your consent. We expect the same honor and ethical practices from our
authors. If at any time you want out of your agreement with us, we will work
assiduously to make this happen for you. We find it is important for
you and us to make transitions as easy and friendly as possible.
